LOW – COST COMPUTERS FOR CHILDREN

There are a lot of students in India who do not have a financial capacity to buy a computer. Taking this into account, Microsoft on partnership with Chipmaker Advanced Micro Device has decided to introduce low – cost computers in our country. They have decided to start selling it this month through retailer, bookshops and stores in Bangalore and Pune, and throughout the country by November. The company will be selling it at a cost of Rs. 21,000 and they may bring down it later.

These computers are mainly for students from kindergarten to 12th grade and these low cost computers are made on AMD developed hardware manufactured by Zenith computers. These may include Microsofts’ Windows Vista, works and student 2007, and software for exam preparation, homework help and English language learning programmes. They have also decided to launch an online MSN IQ Education channel.

I don’t think that this effort of Microsoft will be beneficial for ordinary people as computers are now a days available at 14000+.

at the cost of windows vista at 11,000 INR, MS word at almost same cost, and considering the cost at the time of publication of this article, it seems to be a better initiative, though not providing ultimate low cost computer...
